Does NJ Homeowners Insurance Cover Water Damage Caused by Appliances?

Think about all of your larger household appliances associated with large quantities of water – such as
hot water heaters, air conditioning units, dishwashers and washing
machines. What if one of these appliances were to break down and discharge large amounts of water into your home. Will your NJ homeowners insurance cover it?

The answer is YES! Most standard  NJ homeowners insurance policies
cover water damage repairs caused by failed appliances just as long
as there is no indication of the appliance being damaged. Meaning if the
hot water heater burst because you “accidentally” hit it with a hammer, this would not
be covered. On the other hand, if the water heater simply broke due to normal wear and
tear, the water damage caused by the leaking appliance might be covered.

Remember that even the water damage to your home will be covered under your NJ homeowners insurance it will not cover the replacement of the appliance
itself.
