What You Should Do If Your Car Overheats

What You Should Do If Your Car Overheats.jpg

The weather is starting to heat up here in New Jersey, meaning your car could be vulnerable to overheating! We admit It’s
rare today’s automobiles, but there is also the possibility that it may happen.

If you ever find yourself in a position where your dashboard temperature
indicator starts malfunctioning here’s how to help your vehicle keep cool.

  • At the first sign of overheating, shut off your air conditioner and open your windows: This will decrease the load on the engine to help it cool off.

  • Turn on the heater and blower:This will transfer heat from the engine to the passenger
    compartment of the vehicle.

  • Shift into Neutral or Park and rev the engine a little: This will speed up the water pump and the fan drawing more liquid and air through the radiator.

  • Do not ride your brakes:  Brake drag increases
the load on the engine and makes it heat up.

  • If you it continues to overheat drive to the right-hand side of the road, open the hood, and
sit there until things cool off.
    Remember, don’t open the
radiator cap under these circumstances, and if your engine has boiled
over, don’t add water until the engine is quite cool again.
